Constructed by industrialist Reginald Ashworth as a private residence, the main house was designed by noted architect Charles Forsythe in the Beaux-Arts tradition, with twelve rooms and four acres of formal gardens.
Following the Ashworth family's endowment, the Estate opened its doors to private events for the first time — hosting the region's most prestigious weddings, galas, and corporate retreats.
A major restoration and expansion project added the South Wing Ballroom and the Grand Terrace, doubling the Estate's capacity while preserving every original architectural detail.
Current director Helena Merritt assumed leadership, introducing a new philosophy of radical hospitality — fewer events per year, more attention per event, zero compromise on quality.

James has orchestrated over 1,200 events across his career, with a particular expertise in large-scale weddings and multi-day corporate retreats.
Trained in Lyon, refined in London, Claire leads a culinary team committed to seasonal, locally-sourced menus tailored to each occasion.
