The Origin

Built on a love for the craft.

Marcus Vale started Ink & Bone in 2011 after years of working in busy shops and realizing he wanted to slow down and do the work he actually cared about. Better designs, more time with each client, tattoos that actually meant something.

He set up a small studio in Detroit's Eastern Market neighborhood and started taking appointments. Elena, Tomás, and Jade joined over the next couple of years — each of them drawn to the same idea of doing custom work in a space where quality came first.

Today we work by appointment so we can give every project the time it deserves. Tattoos are permanent, and we take that seriously — but we also genuinely enjoy the process, and we want you to enjoy it too.

What matters to us

Three non-negotiables
01
Everything is custom
Every tattoo we make is designed from scratch, just for you. We love collaborating on ideas and making something that feels personal.
02
Clean & safe, always
We take hygiene seriously. Single-use needles, autoclaved equipment, and a clean studio you'll feel comfortable in from the moment you walk in.
03
We take our time
We work by appointment so sessions never feel rushed. Good tattoos take time, and we'd rather do it right than do it fast.

Meet the artists

Four artists with different styles and backgrounds, all working under the same roof. Here's who you'd be working with.

Marcus Vale
Marcus Vale
American Traditional · Neo-Traditional

Marcus started Ink & Bone and has been tattooing for over 15 years. His background is in American traditional — bold lines, rich color — but he loves pushing that style into something fresh and personal.

Elena Voss
Elena Voss
Blackwork · Ornamental

Elena has been tattooing for eight years with a focus on geometric blackwork and ornamental designs. Her work is precise and detailed, but always feels natural on the body.

Tomás Reyes
Tomás Reyes
Realism · Portraiture

Tomás studied painting before getting into tattooing, and it shows. His realism and portraiture work is some of the most detailed you'll find, and he loves bringing people's ideas to life in a way that genuinely surprises them.

Jade Moreno
Jade Moreno
Illustrative · Japanese-Influenced

Jade draws from both Western illustration and Japanese tattoo traditions. Her work flows beautifully across the body and has a storytelling quality that clients really connect with.
